Your Crisp Packets Can Stop Children From Working On Rubbish Dumps

                                                         sac-1.jpg

We are always on the look out for opportunities where children and do something positive to help other children less fortunate about themselves, so we were very pleased to come across a Southampton based charity 'The Philippine Community Fund'

They have launched a ‘Ring Pull, Toothpaste Tube and Crisp Packet Appeal’ and are asking Schools and Businesses to collect ring pulls, toothpaste tubes (not the pump type), plastic carrier bags and crisp packets (cereal packets, large sweet packets, coffee packets etc) so that they can be sent to the Philippines and made into beautiful handbags and purses.

The handbags and purses are sold in the UK and the profits are used to educate children at PCF’s schools, who are currently scavenging on rubbish dumps. The children, some as young as three years old, search through the mounds of rotting rubbish for items to sell for recycling, earning just £1 for a ten hour working day. Their parents cannot afford to send them to state school.

The handbags are made by the most disadvantaged parents of the school children.

The Charity runs its own schools where children are educated in classes of 25. They receive a nutritious hot breakfast and lunch, medical care and take home rice and canned foods every week for their families based on their effort, achievement and attendance in school.

Can you set up a recycling programme? Or just collect what you generate at home and send your bounty to:
